Male Scholar Athlete of the Week: April 2nd – April 9th, 2018
Toledo's Sam Shutes, Baseball (Senior, Civil Engineering, 3.850)
Senior Sam Shutes allowed a one-out home run in the top of the first before throwing 7.2 innings of shutout ball in a 3-2 victory over Ohio. Shutes allowed just two hits and two walks in eight innings. Eighteen of Shutes' 24 recorded outs came via fly balls.
Female Scholar Athlete of the Week: April 2nd – April 9th, 2018
Kent State's Sam Tollerud, Track and Field (Senior, Exercise Science, 4.000)
Sam Tollerud ranks 12th in the country after clearing a season-best height of 13’-8.5” in the pole vault Saturday at the Northeast Ohio Quad. Other than Tollerud, who owns the school record in the event, only one Kent State athlete has ever had a higher vault in women’s program history.
