MAC Men’s Singles Tennis Player of the Week
Villheim Fridell, Buffalo – Sophomore, Gothenburg, Sweden (ProCivitas Privata)
Buffalo sophomore Villheim Fridell dominated singles action this past weekend as the Bulls won both of their MAC matches. On Friday, Fridell dropped just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win over Tiago Lourenco from Binghamton. On Saturday, Fridell had another straight sets win in a 5-2 victory over Toledo as he defeated Thawin Skasathaporn, 6-3, 6-0. Fridell has won eight of his last 10 matches as he improves to 14-9 on the year.

Louis-Philippe Hamel, Northern Illinois – Senior, Drummondville, Quebec, Canada
Northern Illinois senior Louis-Philippe Hamel at No. 3 singles won a second set tiebreaker as he finished off a 6-3, 7-6 victory over Binghamton’s Tiago Lourenco to help the Huskies to a 4-3 victory over the Bearcats in their lone match of the weekend. Hamel’s victory helped him improve to 12-4 in dual matches, including a 4-1 mark in Mid-American Conference duals.
Lenhard Haupt, Western Michigan – Junior, Mainz, Germany (Stefan George Gymnasium)
Western Michigan junior Lenhard Haupt helped the Broncos remain the only unbeaten program in the conference with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4 over Ball State’s Connor Andersen. Haupt quickly made work of his opponent in singles play on Saturday, April 7 as he finished first amongst all Broncos as WMU defeated BSU 7-0 to conclude its home matches. With the win, Haupt is now fourth on the team in total wins with 23 and is riding a six-match winning streak, the second longest active streak amongst all Broncos. Western Michigan concluded the regular-season at home with an impressive 11-0 record and lead the league at 4-0 this year.
MAC Men’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
Jannik Opitz, Western Michigan – Sophomore, Hildesheim, Germany
Kennosuke Nouchi, Western Michigan – Sophomore, Kashima, Japan
Western Michigan sophomore Jannik Opitz and sophomore Kennosuke Nouchi defeated Ball State’s Guzina, N./Rigney 6-1 at the one to help the Broncos remain the only unbeaten team in the MAC with a 4-0 stint. The pair are second on the team in total victories as they hold a 10-4 record with the longest active winning streak as well at three matches. When playing at No. 1, the sophomores lead the team with a 4-1 record and are 8-2 in their last 10 matches together. With the help of Opitz and Kennosuke, the Broncos ended their home season at a perfect 11-0.

Binghamton junior Ludovico Cestarollo and junior Valentin Bouchet at No. 3 doubles clinched the doubles point in a 7-6 win vs. Northern Illinois on Sunday, April 8.
Petr Vodak, Buffalo – Senior, Kromeriz, Czech Republic
Vidit Vaghela, Buffalo – Senior, Ahmedabad, India (A.G. High School)
Buffalo senior Petr Vodak and senior Vidit Vaghela are nationally ranked and won two more matches this past weekend as the Bulls swept their competition. They opened the weekend with a 6-2 win over Tiago Lourenco and Kushaan Nath from Binghamton and then on Saturday they defeated Danilo Vukotic and Luka Vitosevic of Toledo, 7-5. Vodak and Vaghela are currently ranked No. 64 in the nation and they have won five straight matches.
Kristopher Ortega, Northern Illinois – R-Freshman, Homer Glen, Ill. (Seton Home Study)
Eric Marbach, Northern Illinois – Senior, Naperville, Ill. (Waubonsie Valley High School)
Northern Illinois redshirt freshman Kristopher Ortega and senior Eric Marbach at No. 2 doubles recorded a 7-5 victory over Alejandro Pena and Inigo Saez of Binghamton. With the win, the Huskie duo improved to 9-5 this season, including 4-1 in conference dual matches.
