MAC Women’s Singles Tennis Player of the Week
Sarah Swiderski, Ball State – Junior, Wesley Chapel, Fla. (Saddlebrook Prep)
Ball State junior Sarah Swiderski went 2-0 last week for the Cardinals on their spring break trip in Georgia. Swiderski began the week with a 6-3, 6-4 take down over Kennesaw State’s Kennedy Craig at the No. 2 position helping Ball State earn a 6-1 victory over the Owls. She then closed the week out with a 6-4, 2-6, 16-14 victory on court two over Mercer’s Celine Schepers. Swiderski helped the Cardinals to a 6-1 win over Mercer and a 2-0 spring break slate for the week.

Miruna Vasilescu, Akron – Freshman, Ulm, Germany (Friedrichs)
Akron freshman Miruna Vasilescu defeated Cleveland State’s Gaby Schoenberg at No. 2 singles in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. She is on a three-match winning streak, Vasilescu stands 11-2 in singles action this spring.
Ayumi Sasaki, Bowling Green – Sophomore, Montreal, Quebec
Bowling Green sophomore Ayumi Sasaki competed last week vs Azusa Pacific. After the Cougars of Azusa Pacific went on a three-point run, Ayumi Sasaki narrowed the score to 3-2 when she earned a point for the Orange and Brown at No. 4 singles. A native of Montreal, Quebec, Sasaki first downed her opponent 6-4, and closed out with a straight set win when she shutout her opponent 6-0 for the victory. Sasaki improves to a 5-4 record on the season and earned her first win since Indianapolis on Feb. 10 and the lone singles point for the Bowling Green squad.
MAC Women’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
Julia Sbircea, Ball State – Senior, Boca Raton, Fla. (West Boca High School)
Isabelle Dohanics, Ball State – Junior, Cranberry Township, Pa. (North Catholic Central High School)
Ball State senior Julia Sbircea and junior Isabelle Dohanics paired up on the top court for the Cardinals in last week’s spring break competition in George. The twosome went 2-0 posting wins over Kennesaw State and Mercer. Dohanics and Sbircea started the week off with a 6-5 win over Kennesaw State’s Alexandra Mercado and Jessica Cantrell before closing the week with a 6-4 victory against Mercer. The No. 1 doubles tandem helped the Cardinals defeat both teams 6-1.

Anna Uljanov, Akron – Freshman, Schweinfurt, Germany (Olympia Morata Gymnasium)
Akron sophomore Rita Pedroso and freshman Anna Uljanov captured their fifth consecutive win at No. 1 doubles with a 6-2 victory over Cleveland State’s Isabella Spindler and Aleksandra Golawska, who entered the match with just one loss. This spring Pedroso and Uljanov are 5-1 at the No. 1 doubles position for the Zips.
Paula Comella, Bowling Green – Junior, Ciutadella de Menorca, Spain (Ies Cteib)
Marharita-Sophia Tavpash, Bowling Green – Sophomore, Lviv, Ukraine (Lviv Linguistic Gymnasium)
Bowling Green junior Paula Comella and sophomore Marharita-Sophia Tavpash picked up the first point on the day at Azusa Pacific when the combination of junior Paula Comella and sophomore Marharita-Sophia Tavpash downed their opponent in a decisive 8-2 final. The pairing is now on a three-match win streak and boast a 7-3 record on the season.
