Female Scholar Athlete of the Week: February 19th – February 26th

Eastern Michigan's Alsu Bogdanova, Track and Field (Senior, Individualized Studies, 3.83)
Redshirt senior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia-Lyceum #83) put a cap on her incredible indoor career by earning Most Valuable Performer at the MAC Championships, Saturday, Feb. 24 in Bowling Green, Ohio. The Kazan, Russia native medaled in all three events she competed in (Mile, 3000m, and 5000m), and was a significant piece in the team winning its third conference title in four years. Her best event of the day came in the 5000m, where she placed first with a time of 16:35.47. Additionally, she captured silver in the 3000m with a mark of 9:34.09, while winning bronze in the mile, crossing the finish line in 4:54.00. Given her first-place finish in the 5000m, she was also named First Team-All MAC.
 


Male Scholar Athlete of the Week: February 19th – February 26th 

Eastern Michigan's Max Schuemann, Baseball (Junior, Marketing, 3.78)
Junior Max Schuemann had another monster week for EMU, following up his big opening weekend. All told in four games, Schuemann batted .412 (7-for-17) with three home runs, including one that was inside the park, for a slugging percentage of .941. He added five runs batted in and six runs scored, as well as six stolen bases. For the season, Schuemann is now batting .500 (18-for-36) through eight games with nine steals. The 18 hits and nine steals are the most in the country through eight games.
