ATHENS, Ohio – After the first day of the 2018 MAC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, the Akron Zips lead the way with a total of 80 points. Buffalo sits in second place behind Akron with 66 points. Eastern Michigan ended the day in third place with 62 points.

The 200 medley relay was the first event of the 2018 MAC championships and the Zips relay team began the four-day event with a win. The relay team of Madison Myers, Paloma Marrero Munoz, Sadie Fazekas and senior Susan Franz touched the wall with a time of 1:37.20 for the win. This time sits at the program's third-fastest time.

The Zipss continued their success in the water into the second event of the night, the 800 freestyle relay. The squad of Fazekas, Paulina Nogaj, sophomore Jackie Pash and Ellie Nebraska broke the MAC record with a time of 7:09.92. The time beat the former conference record by two seconds (7:11.26).

 At the end of Day One of the MAC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship, here’s where each team stands:

Titles will be earned tomorrow in the the 500-yard freestyle relay, 200-yard IM, 50-yard freestyle, one-meter dive and 200-yard freestyle relay.
