MAC Announces Swimmer/Diver of the Week

Women's Swimmer of the Week
Kylie Sutherlin, Eastern Michigan

Racing against swimmers from some of the top teams in the nation, sophomore Kylie Sutherlin (Fishers, Ind.) had an excellent showing at the Ohio State Winter Invitational, Feb. 11-12. For her efforts, Sutherlin was named CollegeSwimming.com Co-Swimmer of the Week for the Mid-American Conference. In the two-day meet, Sutherlin used a pair of career-best times to lock up two top-five finishes. The Fishers, Ind. top placement over the weekend came in the 100 butterfly where she posted a third-place finish. After clocking a career-best time of 55.88 in the prelims, Sutherlin took the bronze in the finals at 55.94. The sophomore went on to take fifth in the 200 individual medley when she touched in a career-best time of 2:05.72. Throughout the competition, Sutherlin also participated in the 200 fly and 100 freestyle prelims, but did not swim in the finals. Making her debut in the 100 free, she posted a time of 52.34, the 11th fastest in the pool. Competing in the 200 fly, Sutherlin clocked a career-best time of 2:04.52.

Kayky Mota, Miami

In Kayky Mota's first meet with the RedHawks he finished first in both events he competed in, helping propel Miami to a 217-81 win over Ball State. In the 200 IM, Mota set a team-best time for the season (1:53.17), finishing over three seconds quicker than the runner up. Mota touched the wall almost a second faster than the runner-up finisher in the 200 fly, clocking a time of 1:52.55.

Hannah Wessel was one of the few Miami athletes selected to compete at the Ohio State Winter Invitational. Wessel swam a lifetime-best time in all four events she competed in this weekend. Wessel placed ninth in the A-final of the 200 breast (2:25.07), first in the B-final of the 100 breast (1:06.43) and fifth in the B-final of the 200 IM (2:12.61).

Gus Maxwell, Eastern Michigan

Competing against swimmers from some of the top teams in the nation, freshman Gus Maxwell (Crawfordsville, Ind.-North Montgomery) had an outstanding showing at the Ohio State Winter Invitational, Feb. 11-12. Throughout the two-day meet, Maxwell posted a pair of top-10 swims while notching several career-best times. The freshman's top performance came in the 200 free where he posted a career-best time of 1:43.16 in the preliminaries before using a time of 1:43.66 in the finals, good for sixth-place. The Crawfordsville, Ind. other top-10 performance came in the 500 free where he clocked a time of 4:40.57 to take seventh.
 
Ben Andrew, Ball State

The Cardinals hosted their final meet of the regular season last weekend. Ball State welcomed Miami into Lewellen Aquatics center where they fell to the RedHawks. However, the loss was not from a lack of effort from sophomore Ben Andrew. Andre had one individual first place finish and two individual second place finishes along with being part of a second place relay. Andrew posted a time of 21.37 to earn the top spot in the 50 freestyle. He then earned second in the 100 free with a final time of 47.55. In the 200 IM, Andrew earned four points for the Cardinals with his second place time of 1:56.62. He was the third leg of the 200 medley relay, which earned second place (1:36.51).
