AUSTIN, Texas - The 2018 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American Division I Men's Soccer Soccer Teams were released Thursday, Dec. 6, with Western Michigan men's soccer's Anthony Bowie earning First Team recognition.

A junior forward from Grand Rapids, Mich., Bowie boasts a 4.00 GPA, majoring in Sales & Business Marketing at Western Michigan. He becomes the first ever Bronco to be named a First Team Academic All-American by CoSIDA, and the sixth Academic All-American at WMU in the past two seasons.

"I am very proud of Anthony," said head coach Chad Wiseman, who has generated all six Academic All-America honors in his sixth season at WMU. "He has been the benchmark of how a student-athlete should represent our university and athletic program. He is the total package."

Last year, the Broncos received five All-America honors from CoSIDA and United Soccer Coaches. Former Bronco greats Brandon Bye and Drew Shepherd were both United Soccer Coaches First Team Academic All-Americans in 2017. Zach Bock and Bye were also honored by CoSIDA last season as members of the second and third team, respectively.

Bowie was one of three Broncos start in all 20 games in 2018, totaling a career-high seven points off two goals and three assists. A Mid-American Conference Distinguished Scholar Athlete and Academic All-MAC honoree last season, Bowie led the Broncos with 43 shots, 18 on target, while accumulating 1,530 minutes played. He tallied at least one shot in all 20 games while recording a shot on goal in all but seven contests. Bowie was also a member of the 2018 MAC All-Tournament Team.

"Anthony is a well-rounded individual that sets high goals for himself to go along with an unbelievable work ethic," Wiseman commented.
