GILBERT, Ariz. – 
Longstreth and the National Field Hockey Coaches' Association announced regional players of the year on Thursday. Senior midfielder/forward Paula Portugal was named Regional Player of the Year.

Portugal was named All-Region First Team on Monday for the second-straight season. This season, Portugal was named MAC Offensive Player of the Year and All-MAC First Team. This is the second time she's been named MAC Player of the Year and fourth time she's been named All-MAC First Team. Portugal started all 23 games this season and led the MAC in scoring for the second-straight season with 24 goals, five assists and 53 total points. She had career-highs in goals, points, shots and shots on goal. Portugal had three hat tricks this season. She wraps up her career ranked second in Miami field hockey history in goals (73) and points (171) and tied for fourth in assists (25).

This season, Portugal ranked seventh in goals per game (1.04) and 11th in points per game (2.30) among Division I athletes. Among active career leaders in Division I programs across the country, Portugal finished the season fourth in goals (73), fifth in points (171), ninth in points per game (2.04) and 12th in goals per game (0.87).

In 2017, Portugal was also named MAC All-Tournament Team and All-American Second Team by both the NFHCA and Synapse Sports. In 2015, she was the MAC Freshman of the Year. Portugal has been named MAC Player of the Week 11 times.
