Schlegal and Fazekas Share Swimmer of the Week Honors

Hannah Schlegel, Ohio
Sophomore, Birdsboro, Pa. (Twin Valley High School)
Hannah Schlegel recorded life time bests in the 200, 500 and 1650 freestyle and in the 400-yard IM at the 2018 Ohio State Invitational, placing her first in the conference. In the finals of day one of the 2018 OSU Invitational, Schlegel swam a 4:47.36 for a 15th place finish and moved up to 3rd in the Ohio University All-Time Top 10 500-yard freestyle record book. On day two of the OSU Invitational, in 200-yard freestyle, Schlegel placed 35th with a time of 1:50.82 for a life time best. On day two of the OSU Invitational, Schlegel also placed 19th in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:19.09 that once again placed her in the Ohio University All-Time Top 10 record book, this time in the 5th place spot. On the final day of the OSU Invitational, Schlegel placed 7th in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:23.80, a 27 second drop from her personal best and a new 3rd place spot in the Ohio University All-Time Top 10.
Sadie Fazekas, Akron
Senior, Windsor, Ontario (Sandwich HS)
Senior Sadie Fazekas played a major role in Akron winning its fourth consecutive Magnus Cup Invitational title. She was a member of all five winning relays, including the 200 freestyle (1:30.81), 800 freestyle (7:19.99) and 400 freestyle (3:20.07) relay teams, all of which set new pool and meet records. Additionally, she swam the initial leg in both the 200 and 400 medley relays. Fazekas’ split of 53.91 in the 400 medley relay set a new top time for the senior in the 100 back, while also ranking third all-time for Akron. Individually, Fazekas won the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.51. She also set a new meet record in the 50 butterfly as she turned in a first-place time of 23.93.
Men's Swimmer of the Week
Pawel Krawczyk, Missouri State
Freshman, Warsaw, Poland (Joachim Lelewel High)
Krawczyk landed a pair of first-place finishes at the three-day Iowa Hawkeye Inviational this past weekend. The first day of competition yielded Krawczyk the top spot in the 500 freestyle, touching the wall nearly two seconds ahead of the runner-up with a time of 4:21.66. His time leads the MAC and ranks 29th nationally. Two days later, Krawczyk claimed another first-place spot in the 1650 free, clocking in at 15:04.66, eight seconds ahead of the next finisher. The time tops the MAC and is ninth nationally. His efforts helped the Bears to a fifth-place finish among several big-time programs including Purdue, Minnesota, and host Iowa.

Katelyn Burns, Buffalo

Junior Katelyn Burns continued her dominance in freestyle events as she swam to victory in the 200 yard and 100 yard freestyle events, setting a career-best in both events during the 2018 Magnus Cup Invitational hosted by Cleveland State University. Burns clocked in a winning time of 1:49.11 in the 200 yard freestyle, a career-best for Burns. Burns was also the first place finisher in the 100 yard freestyle event, swimming to victory for Buffalo in a time of 49.88, another career-best for the junior. Additionally, in the 50 yard freestyle, Burns claimed second place in the top finals heat, swimming to a time of 22.98, yet another career-best time for Burns. All-in-all, Burns broke three personal career-bests in the weekend’s events.

Sophomore, Port Elizabeth, South Africa
Pattinson was the high point scorer for the Aces at House of Champions this weekend. He participated in two A-Finals, placing 5th in the 100 backstroke with a final time of 49.89, and 7th in the 100 butterfly with a final time of 49.73.
