KENT, Ohio –The Kent State University field hockey team (4-9, 2-1 MAC) picked up its second Mid-American Conference win, defeating Central Michigan (1-13, 0-4 MAC), 5-1, at Murphy-Mellis Field on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Hailie Balachick led the Kent State attach, netting two goals on the day.

The Flashes dominated the game offensively out of the gate, taking the first shot of the game in the first minute of play and gaining a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute. Balachick fired the first shot from in front of the goal on a pass from senior Courtney Weise. Kent State added a second goal in the first half on direct corner off the stick of junior Laila Richter. Freshman Helena Cambra Solerand sophomore Clara Rodriguez Seto recorded assists on the play.

The Kent State attack continued to shine in the second half, adding three goals to extend the lead to 5-0. Balachick netted her second goal of the day unassisted in the 47th minute, and Weise notched another unassisted in the 55th minute. Sophomore Emma Bressler added to the action in the 57th minute, notching her third of the season. 

Central Michigan ended the shutout in the 66th minute with the final goal of the game to bring the score to 5-1.

Kent State held a 20-6 advantage in shot attempts with nine different players attacking the cage, totaling 13 shots on goal. In goal for the Flashes, junior Mary Crumlish recorded two saves.

The Flashes will host Ball State University for a conference matchup at Murphy-Mellis Field on Friday, Oct. 12 at 1:00 p.m.

Columbus, Ohio. – Ohio field hockey couldn't hang on in their match up against the Ohio State Buckeyes taking a loss in today's match with a final score of 5-2.

The Bobcats gave up two goals in the first half but would score their first goal within a minute of the Buckeyes second. At the start of the second half, Ohio State would score quickly to extend their lead 3-1. The Buckeyes would score again making the score 4-1 before Ohio would get their last goal of the game. The Buckeyes scored one final time ending the game 5-2.

Ohio had two goals. The first by junior forward Brittany Keen (Perth, West Australia) assisted by senior forward Emma Eggleston (Houston, Texas).The second goal would come from red-shirt freshman midfielder Tayla Hansen (Levin, New Zealand). This would mark Keen's first goal of the season while Hansen scored her second goal of the season.

Senior goalkeeper Alex Pennington (Easton, Pa.) made two saves. Freshman goalkeeper Nele Graner (Bonn, Germany) would make an appearance in the second half and record five saves.

Ohio Field Hockey will stay on the road for their next match up. The Bobcats will meet up with conference opponent Longwood on Friday (Oct. 12) at 3 p.m. EST in Farmville, Virginia.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C -- Appalachian State University field hockey's three goals in the second half were not enough to keep pace with No. 16 Wake Forest, falling 8-3 on the road. 

The Demon Deacons entered Sunday's contest winners in five of their previous seven games. Wake tallied at least three goals in its victories during that stretch. 

Appalachian (4-10, 0-3 MAC) netted a trio of second-half scores, all from different student-athletes. Junior Melissa Nobile notched the first Mountaineers' goal in the 46th minute. Junior Ali Williams recorded the assist on Nobile's fourth goal of the season. 

Sophomore Veerle Van Heertum buried her second goal of the weekend in the 68th minute. Freshman Friederike Stegen and sophomore Chloe Bellpicked up the assists on Van Heertum's late goal.

Stegen also capped off her stellar weekend with a goal in the game's final minute. The freshman and Van Heertum both scored a goal in each game this weekend. 

Sophomore Annette Jarosz recorded her fourth defensive save of the season. Jarosz entered the weekend with the Mid-American Conference lead in the category. 

The Mountaineers earned four penalty corners, three of which were in the second half. Appalachian also fired four of its six total shots in the game's final period. 

Appalachian returns home Friday for Senior Night at Adcock Field. The Mountaineers battle MAC foe Central Michigan at 6 p.m.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Miami University field hockey team went back and forth with No. 18 Virginia but ultimately were edged by a 2-1 margin on Sunday. The RedHawks drop to a 9-5 overall record this season while the Cavaliers improve to 5-7 overall.

Virginia took an early 1-0 lead in the second minute of play.

Allie Grace Joyner tied the game during the fifth minute with her fifth goal of the season. Joyner scored by tipping in a pass that came from the stick of Estel Roig.

Miami earned the first penalty corner of the game during the 10thminute of play. The Virginia goalkeeper came up with two saves to keep the game tied.

After Virginia's first penalty corner of the game midway through the first half, the RedHawks would go on to earn the next four corner chances.

The Cavaliers earned a pair of penalty corners with two minutes to play but were held to just one shot on those chances.

The two teams were tied at one after 35 minutes of play. Miami led in shots (10-7), shots on goal (5-4) and penalty corners (5-3).

Each team earned a penalty corner and took a shot in the first portion of the second half as the teams battled midfield for possession.

The Cavaliers broke the tie with 10 minutes left in the game.

Leonor Berlie led both teams with four shots. Maddie Passarellarecorded five saves. Miami led the game in shots (13-11) and penalty corners (7-4) while each team recorded seven shots on goal.
