Lako and Cizmas Named Scholar-Athletes of the Week
Male Scholar Athlete of the Week: October 22nd – 28th, 2018
Akron's John Lako, Football (Junior, 3.366, Human Resources Management)
For the fourth consecutive game, junior LB John Lako led the Akron defense. In the 17-10 win over CMU, he led all defenders with a career-high 23 tackles, two TFL, a fumble recovery, and a break-up. His previous high was 13 tackles. The fumble recovery was a career first. Lako recovered a fumble late in the first quarter. The Zips turned the turnover into three points with a 43-yard field goal by Nick Gasser, giving UA a 10-0 lead. Lako had a crucial TFL for a loss of one yard on a 4th-and-1 in the fourth quarter, stopping CMU’s next to last drive. Lako earned MAC Defensive Player of the Week from College Sports Madness. After seven games, the former walk-on is the Zips’ defensive leader with 78 tackles, 5.0 TFL for a loss of 12 yards, three hurries, and a fumble recovery.?
Female Scholar Athlete of the Week: October 22nd – 28th, 2018
Eastern Michigan's Natalie Cizmas, Cross Country (Redshirt Senior, 3.72, Exercise Science)
Redshirt senior Natalie Cizmas led EMU to its fourth consecutive Mid-American Conference Cross Country Championship Saturday, Oct. 27 in Toledo, Ohio. The Clinton Twp., Mich. native captured the individual crown with a final time of 20:34.89, warranting First Team All-MAC honors for the second time in her career. Additionally, she has earned All-MAC honors in the last three seasons, while acting as the fourth Eagle in five years to lay claim to the individual title.
