Cleveland, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced on Wednesday the 2018 postseason field hockey award-winners. All seven field hockey coaches in the league voted for members of the All-MAC First Team and Second Team, as well as a Freshman, Offensive Player, Defensive Player, and Coach of the Year.

Miami Seniors Paula Portugal and Mariona Heras were named MAC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year respectively, and highlight the All-MAC First Team. Portugal started in all 19 games for the RedHawks and led the MAC in points (48), goals (22), and goals per game (1.16). Heras was third on the team in total points this season (13) from the back position, and headlined the Miami defense after receiving a redshirt last season.

Longwood freshman Luna Lopez was named 2018 MAC Freshman of the Year, after starting all 15 games for the Lancers this season and tallying two goals and three assists. Lopez is joined on the All-MAC first team by Leonie Verstraete, who led Longwood in goals (11) and total points (26) this season.

A trio of Golden Flashes were named to the All-MAC first team, including goalkeeper Mary Crumlish, sophomore back Clara Rodriguez Seto, and junior midfielder Berta Jover Llorens. Seto and Llorens combined to score 6 goals and register 15 assists for Kent State this season, while Crumlish tallied a total of 84 saves in 18 games.

The head coaches selected Miami’s Inako Puzo as MAC Head Coach of the Year. Puzo led the RedHawks to a 13-6 overall record, including a perfect 6-0 mark in Conference play for the second consecutive season. Puzo and the RedHawks are the #1 seed in upcoming MAC Field Hockey Tournament.
