Cutrona & Wassink Named Scholar-Athletes of the Week

Senior forward Carissima Cutrona continued her dominant play this weekend for the Bulls as they were able to collect a pair of MAC victories over Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan. Cutrona finished off her weekend with two goals, an assist and eight shots as she proved to be the best player on the field at all times. On Friday, Cutrona came out flying early for the Bulls as she netted a goal just 19 seconds into the match after a great individual effort. She took a Marcy Barberic feed, darted to the right and beat the keeper back to the left post for the eventual game-winner. Later in the match, Cutrona notched her eighth assist of the season on Adrianna VanCuyck's goal in the 82nd minute to cement the Bulls 2-0 victory. On Sunday, Cutrona was all over the field for the Bulls as she was able to tie the match, 1-1, in the 49th minute as she beat the Eastern Michigan keeper to the left corner of the goal. She finished off Sunday's match with a game-high five shots, four on goal in the 2-1 overtime victory. With her two goals this weekend, Cutrona moved into sixth place on the Bulls all-time scoring charts with 28 career goals. She now has a career-high 24 points on eight goals and a career-best eight assists on the year.

Western Michigan's Jon Wassink, Football (second honor of the season)

Western Michigan redshirt-junior quarterback Jon Wassink accounted for all six touchdowns in the Broncos' 40-39 road win at Miami this past Saturday. Wassink threw five touchdowns, a career-high 439 yards and rushed for the game-winning touchdown with 2:53 remaining. He totaled 477 yards of total offense, also rushing for 38 yards in the game. He came up with a key 4th-and-goal touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, as well as a 14-yard rush on 4th-and-10 on the Broncos' game-winning drive. His 439 yards passing and his 477 yards of total offense are both conference highs this season. He leads the MAC in 2018 with 284.6 yards passing per game and 298.8 yards of total offense per game. Wassink has led the Broncos to three-straight wins, and the Broncos are off to a 1-0 start in MAC play. Wassink has a 3.97 GPA, studying Accountancy, and is scheduled to graduate this December.
