KENT, Ohio—The Kent State University field hockey team ended the Mid-American Conference regular season with a 5-1 record following a 3-1 victory over Appalachian State University at Murphy-Mellis Field Friday afternoon. Three Flashes scored goals on the day as freshman Helena Cambra Soler netted her first career goal.

The Flashes struck first in the 16th minute as sophomore Emma Bressler netted a goal on a direct corner from the top of the circle, her fifth on the season. Senior Courtney Weise recorded the assist as she inserted the ball on the play.
The score remained until the 40th minute when freshman Helena Cambra Solertipped in a goal unassisted from the front of the cage to extend the Kent State lead to 2-0.

Junior Laila Richter added Kent State's third goal of the day in the 55th minute with sophomore Ashley Bonetz on the assist.
The Mountaineers broke the shut out in the 61st minute off the stick of Ali Williams on a fast break, bringing the final score to 3-1.

The Flashes dominated offensively throughout the game, holding a 16-9 advantage in shot attempts. Cambra Soler led the attack with all three shots on goal and a goal on the day. Junior Mary Crumlish recorded her sixth win of the season in the cage, tallying six saves in the contest.

Kent State will play its final regular season contest on Sunday, Oct. 28 at Murphy-Mellis Field against No. 11 Louisville for Senior Day at 12:00 p.m. Kent State's five seniors will be recognized prior to the game.

ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio field hockey team (4-10, 2-2) fought hard against #3 Duke (13-4, 5-1), highlighted by senior goalkeeper Alex Pennington's (Easton, Pa.) 14 saves.
Duke registered their first shot 50 seconds in, setting the tone for the game. In the thirteenth minute, the Blue Devils scored during their first penalty corner, quickly followed by another goal in the 16th minute.

Starting at the 21st minute, Duke earned five penalty corners in three minutes, shooting six times, three of which Pennington saved. In the 32nd minute, Duke extended their lead with their third goal of the half.

"I love the challenge of such a high level team," said Pennington. " I knew I had to give it my all."

The Blue Devils started the second half the same way, shooting in the 35th minute. Pennington accumulated four more saves before senior forward Emma Eggleston (Houston, Texas) registered the Bobcats' first shot of the day during their first penalty corner in the 54th minute.

"It's hard to get a shot off against a number three team," said head coach Ali Johnstone. "I'm really impressed that we were able to do so."

Duke scored their fourth goal of the day in the 64th minute, but the Bobcats weren't done fighting. With a penalty corner called just before the clock ran out, Ohio kept the ball in the circle for three corners and two shots on goal before the end of the game.

Up next, Ohio hits the road for their last regular season game to play the Miami Redhawks at 12 p.m. on Sunday, October 28.
