Akron 3, Central Michigan 2 // Box Score
The University of Akron volleyball team defeated Central Michigan in a back-and-forth, five-set (23-25, 31-29, 14-25, 25-13, 15-11) Mid-American Conference contest on Friday night at James A. Rhodes Arena. After its third straight MAC win at home, Akron improved to 11-9 overall and 3-6 in MAC play, while Central Michigan fell to 3-18, 0-9 MAC. Senior Kayla Gwozdz (Temperance, Mich.) paced the Zips with 18 kills, while junior Ashley Richardson (Doylestown, Ohio) and freshman Teagan Ochaya (Mentor, Ohio) posted 15 and nine kills, respectively. Richardson held a team-best hitting clip of .394. Sophomore setter Emily Weigand (Burton, Ohio) dished out a career-best 57 assists. She also recorded nine digs, two blocks and one service ace on the night.

Bowling Green 3, Toledo 1 // Box Score
Bowling Green State University volleyball came away with a big win against Mid-American Conference rival Toledo in a four-set match on Friday, Oct. 19. With the win, the Falcons advance to 8-1 in MAC play, and 14-8 overall.

Buffalo 3, Eastern Michigan 1 // Box Score
In a match that last nearly two and a half hours and never saw a fifth set, the University at Buffalo volleyball team came away with a hard fought 3-1 victory over Eastern Michigan on Friday night at Alumni Arena. The win was UB's third straight as the Bulls improve to 13-8 on the year and 5-4 in league play. UB took the match 28-30, 25-23, 31-29, 25-22 as the Bulls narrowly outhit the Eagles, .232 to .223. For much of the night, neither team was able to create distance in any of the four sets. In the opening set, the Eagles were able to pull ahead 23-21 late, but the Bulls scored two straight tie it up. The Bulls then fought off two set points before Eastern Michigan fought off one. UB fought off two more, tying the set at 28-28, but the Eagles scored the final two to take the opening set.

Kent State 3, Northern Illinois 2 // Box Score
The Kent State volleyball team used a strong start to the fifth set to capture a 3-2 (2514, 25-22, 18-25, 21-25, 15-9) victory over Northern Illinois in Friday night's return to the M.A.C. Center. The Golden Flashes (10-13, 3-6 MAC) hit better than .400 in each of the first two sets but failed to hit better than .200 in either of the next two sets, as the visiting Huskies tied the match. Kent State scored the first three points of the fifth set and never trailed the rest of the way.

Miami 3, Ball State 2 // Box Score
The heavyweight showdown between two first place clubs in the Miami University volleyball team and Ball State was as good as advertised, with the RedHawks coming from behind to earn a 3-2 (19-25, 25-23, 28-30, 25-18, 18-16) victory. Miami improves to 16-5 overall and 8-1 in the Mid-American Conference. Offensively, the RedHawks remained aggressive throughout to counter a strong Ball State attack. Miami put down a season-high 77 kills, 16 more than any other match in 2018. It was led by a career-night from senior middle hitter Courtney Simons. She set a new career-high with 16 kills and only made three errors in 23 attempts for an impressive attack percentage of .565.

The Ohio volleyball team (9-13, 4-5 MAC) opened up the fifth weekend of Mid-American Conference play with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-13) sweep of West Division foe Western Michigan (13-10, 3-6 MAC) tonight in the program's annual Dig Pink Match at the Convocation Center.
