AKRON, Ohio – University of Akron senior Jackie Siefring (Covington, Ohio) equaled the third-best jump in program history in the women's long jump soaring an indoor personal-best mark of 20-0.25 (6.10m) to headline the Zips' performances on the final day of the sixth annual Akron Pole Vault Convention on Sunday, Jan. 7, at the Stile Athletics Field House.
The Zips finished the two-day competition with 14 first-place efforts and 50 top-three performances.
Senior Garrett Crichlow (Twinsburg, Ohio) opened the meet winning the men's mile in 4:10.07, while sophomore Haley Hess (Curtice, Ohio) took the women's mile in 5:14.59.
Running a personal-best 8.32 to capture the men's 60-meter hurdles was redshirt sophomore Preston Fillman(Hanoverton, Ohio), who also won the men's long jump with a personal-best mark of 22-11.25 (6.99m).
Junior Dara Perry (Akron, Ohio) took the women's 60 meters crossing the line in 7.84 followed by junior Eboni Hall (Pickerington, Ohio) with a time of 7.98.
The Zips swept the top-three spots in the men's 800 meters with freshman Steven Ashcraft (Canton, Ohio), Crichlow and sophomore Nick Stricklen (Lexington, Ohio) recording times of 1:55.02, 1:55.31 and 1:56.41, respectively.
In the women's 800 meters, freshman Leah Recker (Findlay, Ohio) crossed the line first in 2:20.37 and was followed in 2:21.97 and 2:24.12, respectively, by sophomores Victoria Stachowski (Waterford, Mich.) and Cassidi Lovell (Fremont, Ohio).
Posting times of 21.68 and 21.92 to finish 1-2 in the men's 200 meters were seniors Taron Slone (Columbus, Ohio) and Jamir Coleman (Lima, Ohio). Registering a personal-best time of 25.15 to capture the women's 200 meters was senior Stephanie Hale (Cleveland, Ohio).
Junior Curtis Richardson (Blacklick, Ohio) and sophomore Jacob Ross (Hilliard, Ohio) took the top-two places in the men's high jump with clearances of 6-9.50 (2.07m) and 6-5.50 (1.97m).
Sophomore Marcques Gibbs (Darby, Pa.) won the men's triple jump with a mark of 46-10.25 (14.28m), while sophomore Tanea Cousins (Chillicothe, Ohio) took first in the women's triple jump with a leap of 35-2.50 (10.73m).
Registering personal-best times of 8:40.09 and 8:46.10 to go 1-2 in the men's 3,000 meters was redshirt freshman Marc Migliozzi (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and redshirt sophomore Jeremiah Fitzgerald (Mantua, Ohio).
Finishing 1-2-3 in the women's 3,000 meters was freshman Ashley Murray (Seville, Ohio), sophomore Vanessa Rivera (Seville, Ohio) and freshman Whitney Wendling (Lexington, Ohio) crossing the line in 10:23.89, 10:34.48 and 10:55.38, respectively.
Junior Olivia Snyder (Navarre, Ohio) capped the Zips' efforts on the afternoon taking the title in the women's shot put with a career-best throw of 46-7.25 (14.20m).
Akron returns to action next weekend traveling to Lexington, Ky., to compete in the two-day Kentucky Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 12-13.
