MAC Women’s Singles Tennis Player of the Week
Miruna Vasilescu, Akron – Freshman, Ulm, Germany (Friedrichs)
Akron freshman Miruna Vasilescu opened spring play with a perfect 4-0 mark in singles action. In two road matches on Friday, Vasilescu beat St. Bonaventure’s Francesca Chin in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 4 position. At No. 3 singles against Niagara, Vasilescu blanked Chhinda Som, 6-0, 6-0. On Sunday against Wright State, Vasilescu remained unbeaten with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Madison Riley. After two weeks of spring play, she is 4-0 in singles action.

Alejandra Barcelo Almoyna, Eastern Michigan – Senior, Alicante, Spain (IES Figueras Racheco)
Eastern Michigan senior Alejandra Barcelo Almoyna opened spring play with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Youngstown State at No. 6 singles in the Eagles' victory in their first match of the season. She also teamed with freshman Natalia Regalado at No. 3 doubles to come away with Eastern Michigan's most convincing win at 6-2.
Nelli Ponomareva, Miami – Senior, Krasnodar, Russia (Krasnodar School #43)
Miami senior Nelli Ponomareva went 2-1 last week at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. On Wednesday, she played at No. 2 singles and lost to Kentucky's Emily Fanning 6-0, 6-2, then on Friday she played at No. 1 singles and defeated Wright State's Karolina Haller 7-5, 6-1, leading Miami to its first dual match win of the season. On Sunday, Ponomareva played at No. 1 singles and defeated Dayton's Marlys Bridgham 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, overcoming a dropped first set and a 4-1 deficit in the third. Her win clinched the 5-2 victory for the RedHawks.
MAC Women’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
Marie Mayerova, Eastern Michigan – Senior, Krmelin, Czech Republic
Giuliana Ansaloni, Eastern Michigan – Freshman, Bergamo, Italy
Eastern Michigan senior Marie Mayerova and freshman Giuliana Ansaloni at No. 1 doubles helped secure the doubles' point for the Eagles with a 7-6 victory over Youngstown State's top pair.

Luisa Echeverry, Akron – Junior, Cali, Colombia (Liceo Benalcazar)
Miruna Vasilescu, Akron – Freshman, Ulm, Germany (Friedrichs)
Akron junior Luisa Echeverry and freshman Miruna Vasilescu went a perfect 3-0 on the week. At the No. 1 position, the Zips claimed two wins on Friday en route to helping the team earn the doubles point twice. The duo defeated St. Bonaventure’s Gabriella Bowe and Kahlei Reisinger, 7-5, before beating Niagara’s Stella Peisakhova and Shannon Wong, 6-1. On Sunday against Wright State, Echeverry and Vasilescu captured their third consecutive win with a 6-1 victory over Jillian Milano and Madison Riley at No. 2 doubles. After two weeks of spring action, Echeverry and Vasilescu are 3-0 in doubles action.
