CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference Council of Student-Athletes (COSA) Executive Committee is set for the 2017-18 academic year. In addition to Kelsi White, who currently serves as the Co-Vice Chair NCAA DI National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Representative and COSA Chair, Akron’s Abbey Pawlak, Bowling Green’s Ethan Good and Kent State’s Matt Bahr were selected to the COSA Executive Committee.
COSA is the MAC SAAC that consist of 25 current student-athlete members. Each institution appoints two student-athletes to represent the institution. COSA is responsible for discerning initiatives for the benefit of student-athlete welfare and experience.
One member is the National SAAC representative and is the primary liaison to all other conference committees. White is able to represent the Conference for one additional year following her graduation from Miami. She will be supported by the three Executive Committee members and will also assist in determining who will replace her as the 2018-19 National SAAC Representative.
White has two Bachelor Degrees. One in Political Science and the other in East Asian Languages and Culture, with a concentration in Chinese. This Fall she will be a Juris Doctorate candidate at the University of Denver where she hopes to pursue a career in international law.
“The best part about being a MAC leader and member of COSA is that I have the opportunity to represent a conference that is at the forefront of student-athlete well-being,” said White. “As a group, we are able to take a deep dive into so many important issues and initiatives; ultimately having an important voice in the direction of the conference. It is an incredibly rewarding experience.”
Pawlak is a junior volleyball player at Akron and is majoring in early childhood education. Her favorite thing about being a part of COSA is getting to meet new people and being able to help make a difference for student-athletes. Being a MAC student-athlete has helped Pawlak follow her dream of playing college volleyball.
“I am honored to be on the Executive board for COSA,” said Pawlak. “I am looking forward to help make a difference and to be a voice for student-athletes in the MAC.”
Sophomore Ethan Good plays men’s basketball at Bowling Green and is majoring in biochemistry and wants to pursue a job in Medical Missionary. For Good, being a part of the Executive Committee will help him continue to be a voice for student-athletes and for walks-on student-athletes specifically.
Kent State’s Bahr is a junior football player majoring in criminal justice. He is planning on joining the Army after he graduates and hopes to work for a Federal Agency. Bahr’s favorite thing about being a part of COSA is being able to work with student-athletes and administrators from other Universities while building friendships and relationships along the way.
“As a member of the executive committee, I look forward to working with the rest of the COSA members to discuss ways to make the MAC the best it can be and finding ways to put our ideas into action, “ said Bahr.
We look forward to the direction that this Executive Committee will lead the fellow student-athlete leaders in the upcoming academic year and maintain the Mid-American Conference at the forefront of ensuring student-athlete voice is supported.
