2018 MAC Gymnastics Preseason Poll
CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Central Michigan Chippewas have been selected to be the 2018 Mid-American Conference Champions. Results of the poll were announced Thursday by the conference office and were voted on by the league's head coaches.
CMU finished third at the MAC Championships last season with a score of 196.100. The Chippewas sent two gymnasts to the NCAA Championships, Denelle Pedrick on vault and Katy Clements on beam.
Kent State grabbed the number two spot in the preseason poll. The Golden Flashes' roster features 14 gymnasts returning from last season's team, which finished 3-3 in Mid-American Conference meets and qualified for the NCAA Regional competition for the ninth time in the past 10 years.
Bowling Green was selected to finish third. The Falcons returns all but three members of a squad that posted the program's second-best score in school history and best team finish in 30 years at the 2017 MAC Championships.
In fourth sit the Northern Illinois Huskies. The Huskies are coming off a multi record-breaking season. The gymnasts were able to set top -10 11 individual records and 14 top-10 team records, not to mention the highest Mid-American Conference Championship score in program history with 195.725.
Western Michigan was tabbed to finish fifth, Eastern Michigan sixth and Ball State seventh, respectively.
The 2018 MAC Gymnastics Championships will be held at Central Michigan University on March 24.
