CONWAY, S.C. -- Thomas Wilder scored 31 points, 24 in the second half when Western Michigan took control to defeat Appalachian State 86-67 on Friday night in the consolation bracket of the relocated Puerto Rico Tip-Off.

Shabazz finished with 25 points and Justin Forrest came off the bench to add 13 points for the Mountaineers (2-2), who shot 31 percent after halftime.

MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State men's basketball team outscored Stony Brook by 19 in the second half Friday night to overcome an eight-point deficit at the break for an 87-76 victory at Worthen Arena.
Junior point guard Tayler Persons scored 29 points on 12-of-18 shooting from the floor in the Cardinals' home opener.
Ball State (1-2) attacked the basket throughout the night, holding a 38-26 advantage in the paint and getting to the foul line, where the Cardinals made 27 of 34 attempts.
Ball State found itself trailing 42-34 at the break after a hot shooting start from Stony Brook. The Seawolves, who pushed UConn to the brink earlier this week, made 8 of 15 attempts from 3-point range in the opening half, including a 3-for-3 effort from Tyrell Sturdivant.
The Cardinals buckled down in the second half. Sturdivant was 1 for 6 from beyond the arc after halftime, and Stony Brook (0-3) was 2 for 12 as a team.
Ball State scored on its first six possessions of the second half and eventually grabbed its first lead at 54-53 on a 3-point play from Kyle Mallers. The teams traded the lead back and forth for the next five minutes before the Cardinals took the lead for good on a Jontrell Walker free throw with 7:38 to play.
That was the start of a 17-6 run that put Ball State in control down the stretch. Persons scored 10 of his points during that span, including a pair of big 3-pointers, and BSU went on to seal the win at the free throw line.
Mallers scored 16 points for the Cardinals, while Tahjai Teague had 13 to go along with a career-high five steals. Sean Sellers added 10 points.
UC Iroegbu scored 18 points to lead Stony Brook, a team that has played in a postseason tournament in each of the past six seasons.
Friday marked the second in a stretch of three games in five days for Ball State, with games in Oklahoma, Muncie and Oregon. The Cardinals will travel to play Sunday at Oregon with a tipoff at 6 p.m. PT (9 ET) on Pac-12 Network.

MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica – A balanced offensive attack and a historic defensive performance led the Miami University men’s basketball team to its first 3-0 start since the 1998-99 season as it defeated LIU Brooklyn 78-74 to open play at the Jamaica Classic on Tuesday. The Blackbirds fall to 1-3.
Junior point guard Darrian Ringo made his presence felt all over the court as he broke the single-game Miami record with eight steals. The previous record of seven had been accomplished five times, by Quinten Rollins (twice), Damon Frierson, Ron Harper and Chuck Goodyear. He flirted with a quadruple-double, also finishing with 12 points, nine assists and six rebounds.
The RedHawks shot 50.9 percent (29-for-57) for the game, while holding LIU Brooklyn to 36.5 percent shooting (27-for-74). Senior forward Rod Mills Jr. led Miami with 19 points in 29 minutes of action.
Senior forward Logan McLane was dominant in the post, finishing with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman guard Jalen Adaway joined him in double-double territory, recording 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Ringo and freshman forward Dalonte Brown each had layups, but it took both teams awhile to get into an offensive groove while figuring out the rims in the Montego Bay Convention Center. Miami trailed 11-9 in the first half before a dunk from McLane and at three-pointer from Mills gave it the lead at 14-11 with 12:00 to go. Redshirt junior guard Jake Wright drained a triple, but the Blackbirds were eventually able to regain the advantage at 19-18 at the 8:12 mark.
A three-pointer by freshman guard Nike Sibande and a jumper by McLane got the RedHawks offense moving as they went on a big run to end the half. After LIU Brooklyn scored a layup with 6:12 to go that made it 23-21, Miami would hold them without a single point the rest of the period. Ringo had a layup and a three-pointer as part of the 11-0 run that gave the Red and White a 34-21 lead at the half.
The Blackbirds opened the second half on a 15-7 run to close within five at 41-36. Layups from McLane, Adaway and Mills got the advantage back into double-digits, but LIU Brooklyn would not let the RedHawks pull away. After another steal from Ringo, he found McLane for the layup. Mills then drained a three-pointer for Miami’s largest lead of 57-43 with 11:46 to go.
After the Blackbirds again pulled to within nine, layups from sophomore center Bam Bowman, Brown and two from McLane gave the RedHawks a 67-52 advantage at the 5:29 mark. LIU Brooklyn got hot from behind the arc and used a 13-3 run over the next 2:32 to close to within five at 70-65. McLane ended the run with an empathic dunk that made it 72-65 with 2:15 left.
A pair of Mills free throws pushed the lead to nine, but a layup and triple cut the score to 74-70 with 57 seconds remaining. Mills drained two more freebies to make it a six-point lead, but LIU Brooklyn answered with a free throw and another three-pointer to pull within two at 76-74 with four seconds to go. Ringo was fouled on the ensuing inbounds and calmly sank both free throws to secure the RedHawks’ 78-74 victory.
Miami won the rebounding battle 42-40 and was able to overcome 13 three-point makes from the Blackbirds. LIU Brooklyn was led by Joel Hernandez with 25 points.
The RedHawks conclude play at the Jamaica Classic when they take on Hartford on Sunday at 10 p.m. That game will air live on the CBS Sports Network.

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Darrell Davis scored a career high 25 points and Josh Cunningham had 18 points and 19 rebounds as Dayton defeated Ohio 79-65 at the Charleston Classic on Friday night.
The Flyers (2-1) will face Old Dominion Sunday for fifth-place at the eight-team tournament. The Bobcats (1-2) will play Indiana State in the seventh-place game right before.

Davis hit three of Dayton's 10 3-pointers. If there were any misses, the 6-foot-7 Cunningham was there to get them.
Jordan Dartis had 19 points for Ohio.
Dayton's Kostas Antetokounmpo, the 6-10 freshman brother of "Greek Freak" Gianis, had four points, three rebounds and three blocks in 13 minutes.
